I spent
many of my formative years as a church organist and I have always
impressed by the amount of great music the church has inspired – from
Gregorian chant to the great hymn tunes of more recent years.
In
choosing the hymns for this collection, I have drawn heavily, but not
exclusively, on the great English hymns of the ‘golden age’ of the 18th
and 19th centuries – tunes which are not only perfect for
congregational singing, but also offered many musical possibilities for
expansion and variation.
The
enclosed CD contains full performances as well as accompaniment-only
tracks to use when a piano is not available. There are also plans to
issue band arrangements for some of these solos – contact your local De
Haske agent for details.
So,
