Concertino Classico (Flute, Clarinet or Alto Saxophone & Concert Band)

Grade 3 | 7 Mins

In 2008, composer Philip Sparke published the latest volume of his instrumental books, Super Solos. With editions for flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone and euphonium, these are the last in a series of three progressive solo books which take the young player from beginner to competent musician.

Young German flautist Meinhard Drescher was so taken with these solos that his father Bernhard secretly commissioned the composer to arrange three of the solos – Little Overture, Berceuse and Moto Perpetuo – into a mini-concerto for flute and concert band, which was presented to Meinhard as a 16th birthday present and performed by him for the first time on 18th October 2009.

Concertino Classico is in the standard quick-slow-quick concerto form and can be played by flute, clarinet or alto saxophone.
