Sandstone Centennial: Frodsham Silver Band Centenary March

Grade 4 | 4 Mins

Sandstone Centennial was commissioned by Frodsham Silver Band from north-west England, to celebrate their centenary in 2007.

The title refers to the fact that Frodsham, close to the River Mersey and the Manchester Ship Canal, is situated at one end of The Sandstone Trail, a hiking route which was opened in 1974 and traces a ridge of sandstone that rises dramatically from the Cheshire plain and links Frodsham with Whitchurch, some 32 miles (51 km.) away.

The march is in traditional English ‘contest march’ style, with the usual ‘bass’ strain and cantabile trio; it can be performed with or without a Da Capo.
